JIL BC ICARE- CLIMB ATHON PROJECT

“CLIMB A THON PROJECT at Grouse Grind, June 6, 2009
(Giving school backpacks and school supplies for the needy children)

From the time I accepted this challenge to take this post as iCARE head for BC. Questions such as who will help me? How can I fulfill this new challenge with excellence? Are few of my questions that were answered on the day of Climb a Thon project at Grouse Grind? For I have proven that this event become successful NOT because of one person BUT because of UNITY of all JIL BC’s pastors/coordinators, leaders, workers, and .congregation. Therefore I would like to express my gratitude to all of you for all your contributions (known or unknown). With your hands, feet, talents and of course your pledge we CONQUER GROUSE MOUNTAIN. PRAISE THE LORD, GIVE GOD THE GLORY!!!!!

One Sunday, Bro Sherwin Misa preached in Newton Church and mentioned a story of a man that gave his tithes and offering to the Lord and stated “Lord I want to see this offering in heaven”. As soon as he mentioned that I was reminded of a song that talks exactly about this man’s proposal to the Lord. And this song is “THANK YOU FOR GIVING TO THE LORD”. I have inserted and paraphrase some lines

THANK YOU FOR GIVING TO THE LORD
By Ray Boltz

I dreamed I went to Heaven, you were there with me.
We walked upon the streets of gold beside the Crystal Sea.
We heard the angels singing, and then someone called your name.
You turned and saw this young man, and he was smiling as he came.
He said, "Friend you may not know me now," and then he said,
"But wait -You pledge during CLIM A THON, when I was only eight.
I learned how to say a prayer before the class would start. And one day said a prayer, I asked Jesus in my heart."
Chorus
Thank you for giving to the Lord, I am a life that was changed.
Thank you for giving to the Lord, I am so glad you gave.

Then another man stood before you, he said
"Remember the time, A missionary came to your church,
His pictures made you cry.You didn't have much money
but you gave it anyway.Jesus took that gift you gave
And that's why I'm in Heaven today"

Chorus
Thank you for giving to the Lord, I am a life that was changed.
Thank you for giving to the Lord, I am so glad you gave.

One by one they came, far as your eyes could see.
Each life somehow touched by your generosity.
Little things that you had done, sacrifices that you made,
They were unnoticed on this earthIn Heaven now proclaimed.

Chorus
Thank you for giving to the Lord, I am a life that was changed.
Thank you for giving to the Lord, I am so glad you gave.

And I know up in Heaven you're not supposed to cry
But I am almost sure there were tears in your eyes
As Jesus took your hand and you stood before the Lord
He said "My child look around you Great is your reward.”

“MY SON LOOK AROUND YOU GREAT IS YOUR REWARD”,These are the words awaits you when you come face to face with our God.

I also would like to congratulate all winners (Bro Barry Burgos, Bro Eric Mangao and Bro Edwin Andaya) and Kudos to Tatay Francisco Aguilar for receiving the special award (Caleb Award), Sis Rose Evangelista (Moses Award) and to my pastor, Ptr Gody Binalla. I also would like to congratulate Bro Raffy Agustin for his perseverance in finishing the climbing.

JILBC ICARE Ministry Climb-a-thon Project

It's Monday now, a couple of days since the JILBC ICARE ministry headed by Bro Fred Pangan held its first Grouse Grind Climb-a-thon project. We held it on Saturday June 6 from around 9 AM till just about past noon time. My muscles are still somewhat sore although presently, I can manage walking around without the obvious limp.

If my memory serves me correctly, it was a perfect day to do the Grind. It was not too hot and there was just the right mix of summer breeze and mountain fog. The delegates, including yours truly, started out at the very edge of Parking Lot D. The first group, to which I belonged, began the trek at around 9:30 AM.

What struck me the most when I began the climb up the summit was how crowded the Grind was. And I began thinking why those people were there. I am sure that some were climbing the mountain to relieve the stress of the work week, some wanted to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city, some to achieve a personal goal. Whatever the motives of the other climbers on the mountain, it made me feel special to know that the reason why I was doing the Grind was to give glory to my God.

For those of you who supported the delegates and gave your pledges, I thank you from the bottom of my heart because you gave to a worthy cause. Of course, the money that the ICARE ministry collected will be going to go to needy schoolchildren in the Philippines.

It took me around 20 min to arrive at the 1/4 mark at which point I almost lost my mind. I could not believe that all the effort that I had exerted for 20 min only brought me a quarter of the way up, but I pressed on till the 1/2 mark and then the 3/4 mark. The last stretch of the hike was by far the hardest. It was literally the steepest part and I was practically climbing on rock. However, the last stretch was also the most rewarding knowing that just a few more steps and I would already be at the top.

As I neared the top of the summit, I could hear the cheers of those who had already gone before me and that gave me even more courage and strength to push through till the end. Finally after about 1 hour and 40 minutes, I reached the top. I cannot really explain the experience of having conquered the summit, but I must say that when I reached the top I let out a yell just to give thanks to the Lord that He brought me through to complete the challenge.

If you want to know the feeling of not just climbing the Grind, but doing it for the glory of God as well, then join us next year! For those of you who accomplished the Grind on Saturday, I congratulate you especially Bro Edwin Andaya of Van1, Bro Eric Mangao of Van1 and Bro Barry Burgos of Surrey Newton who were the first, second and third fastest to reach the top.

A Visit to JIL Seattle!

About a week's time ago, I was blessed enough to be chosen to be a musiciannary to JIL Seattle. The whole day event was simply inspiring. On the offset I did realized that JIL Seattle is a Multicultural Church/Outreach much like the JIL MC here in BC. Although JIL Seattle is a young church/outreach they are getting stronger as the Lord allows them to be. Strong leadership and supporting workers made this outreach one of the most stable outreaches I recently went to and the fondest (I guess that's because of the outlets). The people are extremely friendly and of course Filipinoes where ever they maybe will always be hospitable (check out the video of Bro John Pucci below). The Holy Spirit manifested Himself on the get-go. A comment was made that there was a strong worshipping spirit with in the people. The worship was led by Brother Andy. The preaching of Bro John Pucci was another ace. His general topic was on Spiritual Warfare and he focused on the Good Fight benig the warriors of Jesus Christ. Bro John left us with three charges based on I Timothy 1:8-18 and those are 1. Join the battle 2. Have confidence 3. Be a strong witness.
After the service, we had lunch at Bro Tim's house and boy was I in for a treat. I tasted the juiciest, sweetest and crunchies peices of fried chicken ever. (Sorry church's chicken and KFC, you have been dethroned). Unfortuantely we don't have that kind of chicken here in Canada. (1 more reason to go back to Seattle... I don't even know the name of the restaurant). Anyway, after lunch we headed out to a park (of which the name escapes my mind) and prepared a place for the Acquaintance and Fellowship service which will be held on that same afternoon. During the service a powerful testimony was given by one of the brothers, Terry, how God saved him and his daughter from the salmonella virus and how God transformed him from a drunkard to a placard of God. Another testimony was given by one of the sisters, Mildred (the wife of Bro Tim), on how God fulfilled His promises to them financially. Pastora Malou shared about God's love in John 3:16 and reitirated the importance of having Jesus Christ as the only saviour who can lead them to heaven. The children also did a special number. The best part about all of this is the fact that out of the 40 who attended that service, 19 people were first timers. Woot Woot. Glory to God. I fellowshipped with the JIL Seattle after the service and learned some pretty interesting things about the outreach and how God manifested hinself to the church as a whole. (The spaghetti by the way is fantastic...) But as with everything else, all good things must come to an end here on this earth so at around 6 pm we left JIL Seattle blessed and encouraged by what God did and what God can do. God bless JIL Seattle!

JIL Surrey-Fleetwood Church Leased Building Dedication

“The task ahead of you is never greater than the Power behind you."

Ptr. Aldrin Navo's message this morning in JIL Surrey-Fleetwood during our Church Leased Building Dedication was really encouraging and challenging. As we move to our new place, new challenges also face us.

Three things we learned from him, which we want to share with you:

1) Always Step Out of the Comfort Zone
2) Always Step Into New Opportunity
3) Always Step Towards God’s Plan

For almost 2 years now that we've been using Surrey Leisure's facility every week for our Sunday Worship Services, it has been the desire of our hearts and our prayer to have a permanent place where we can hold our Worship Services and other Church activities. And God answered that prayer! He placed us in a very strategic location in Surrey at the corner of Fraser Highway and 88 Avenue, wherein the building owner gave us so much favor in the renovation of the premises. Indeed, God is faithful. He even blessed us with people (JIL Surrey-Fleetwood leaders, workers and members) who have supported us in this new building in prayer, encouragement, cleaning, painting, preparing and bringing food, etc., etc... The services rendered by Ptr Ben and Sis Gina Pelayo are also much appreciated, for taking care of our Lease Agreement with the Building Owner.

We'd like to take this opportunity as well, on behalf of JIL Surrey-Fleetwood, to thank JIL Surrey-Newton for allowing us to use their facilities for the past 2 years in our music practices and other activities.

And of course, our appreciation to Ptr Aldrin and Ptr Monette Navo, for their unwavering support and encouragement to all our undertakings in the ministry that God has entrusted to us.

TO GOD BE ALL THE GLORY AND THANKSGIVING !!!

Ptr. Louie & Sis. Millet Figueroa

Haggai 2:9 "The glory of this present house will be greater than the glory of the former house,' says the LORD Almighty..."

RIGHT WORDS

There is a Chinese saying which carries the meaning that "A speech will either prosper or ruin a nation." Many relationships break off because of wrong speech. When a couple is too close with each other, we always forget mutual respect and courtesy. We may say anything without considering if it would hurt the other party. Here’s a simple story to illustrate such a situation: "A friend and her millionaire husband visited their construction site. A worker who wore a helmet saw her and shouted," Hi, Emily! Remember me? We used to date in the secondary school." On the way home, her millionaire husband teased her, "Luckily you married me. Otherwise you will be the wife of a construction worker." She answered...."
